Botin restaurant in Madrid

Botín restaurant in Madrid was founded by James Botin and his wife  in 1725. It is one of the oldest eateries at the original premises in the world. The restaurant was originally called as Casa Botín but later it was inherited by a nephew of theirs called Candido Remis who change the name to Sobrino de Botín.

As a curiosity it is also important to note that the artist Francisco de Goya used to work here as a dishwasher while waiting to get accepted into the Royal Academy of Fine Arts.

This spot in Madrid is one of the places with the best view of the city and one of the must to visit during your stay. It is located in the Círculo de Bellas Artes in the top roof of the building.

The Circulo de Bellas Artes magnificent roof is guarded by the sculpture of the goddess Athena (in Greek mythology) or Minerva (in Roman mythology) goddess of wisdom (advocate of the arts and sciences).

This roof also features La Pescera cafe, a really nice place to sit outside on a nice day and have lunch while you watch one of the most incredible views of the city center. Nice long set of chairs/tables all facing one of the main promenade streets.

To celebrate the existence of the wonderful creation of the books, The Community of Madrid celebrates it for eighth consecutive year under the slogan Me regalas un libro? Te regalo un libro (Can I have a book? I gift you a book), the great feast of NIGHT OF THE BOOKS 2013.

Today is the great feast of the books and will be celebrated with style with The Night of the Books. Tertulias, (social gatherings), meetings with authors, workshops, libraries and a large photographic mosaic in which you can still participate, are some of the activities scheduled today.

The Madrid Wax Museum

The Madrid Wax Museum opened its doors on the 14th of February 1972. It is located at the start of the”golden mile” of Madrid Museums, on the Paseo de Recoletos.

It features at least 2,000 square metres split over two floors, over forty rooms in which the visitor can experience an amazing travel through time.

The museum contains representations of the most prominent figures today: George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas, Angelina Jolie, Andrés Iniesta, Penélope Cruz, Rafa Nadal, Iker Casilla and the lovely Sponge Bob.

The Mutua Madrid Open is one of the most important tournaments on both the male and female circuits today. It is played in May just before the second Grand Slam of the season, Roland Garros, in the top class setting of the Caja Magica.

The best players have the ATP title: Andre Agassi, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Marat Safin, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.
